Foster/Adopt Update

In the middle of trying to rush through setting up a garage sale, work, etc. I receive a phone call on Friday from our adoption worker.  "Hey Krista, any chance you guys can be done with your certification next week?"  Me, "Uhhh, well that's kind of up to you guys, our last training is Oct. 28."  Adoption worker, "Ok, well we have a child who needs to be placed next week and you guys are the only people on our roster willing to take a boy."  Me, "Uhhhhhhhhhhh, ok."  Her, "Can I come on Friday to do your training one on one?  Then your foster rep. can come on Tuesday to do your final walkthrough?"  Me, "Uhhhhhhhh, ok."  We hang up.  Call Michael- Me "scream, yell, blah, blah, blah, what do we do, what's happening, blah, blah, blah, blah."  Michael, "Krista, Stop, just stop.  My coworkers thing you're one of those crazy wives right now."(and he meant that in the nicest/funny way)  Hang up.  Call my foster rep.  Her, "Didn't I tell you this could happen?"  Me, "NO!!!".

So after that it was off to the races.  We literally hadn't done one thing to prepare our house for the walkthrough.  So between work, garage sale, Libby's birthday, dinner with friends, meeting with a pastor, and going to a friends play we did our online training, cleaned the house, installed locks, installed a fire extinguisher, set up a crib, emptied out a closet and dresser, etc.  I may have fallen asleep at 3am on Monday night/Tuesday morning in the middle of trying to give Michael answers to his online training.  Thank goodness we had visited the doctor for our physical on Friday and ordered our first aid kit/ thermometer/fire extinguisher the week before on Amazon.  You would not believe the rules to being a foster parent- sadly, it's because of the way foster kids have been treated in the past.

So we had our home walkthrough yesterday and we are now officially certified!  Crazy!  Before our foster worker could even leave the house yesterday the caseworker had called me to set up a time to pick up the child.  This weekend we will have a younger than Tristan boy! (I'll disclose his age in person- not on the blog right now- sorry!)

We feel blessed because placement calls don't normally happen before you are certified, especially one's that seem like such a great fit.  We are also very blessed that in this situation we have resources to talk to about his likes/dislikes, schedule, etc.- that NEVER happens.  We are so excited to introduce him to everyone when we have a chance to visit.  Unfortunately for the time being we aren't allowed to leave the state so that may be awhile- depending how flexible our social worker and judge are.  Thanks for everyone's continued support!
On a business note- anything written on here is most likely the amount of information we can give.  Because of privacy issues there won't be pictures of him on the blog and his name with never be mentioned.  We won't even be able to mail photos to anyone- sorry!  I guess if you want to meet him you will have to visit us in person : )  We appreciate your patience with us during this time.  And please don't be offended if we tell you we can't answer a question you may ask.  Subjects we most likely won't talk about include his family history, medical history, court proceedings, why he is in foster care and probably a million other things we don't know yet!  We are so excited to go on this wonderful adventure with all of you!

Our memory verse in bible study this week means so much to me going through this process and reflecting on our struggles with Tristan in the NICU.
"In your hearts set apart Christ as the Lord.  Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have.  But do this with gentleness and respect."
1 Peter 3:15
He is the reason we have always had the hope that we do!
