My Birthday!

Another rare post from Michael to show off what my family did for my birthday.  And of course, everything revolved around food!  Breakfast was tasty scones from Krista's work, lunch was leftovers for Tristan and I while Krista went to work, then the fun began.  I noticed an ice cream truck we'd been wanting to try was in Venice, so away we went.  Only downside?  We haven't tried to go to Venice Beach on a weekend in the summer for a long time - that place is crazy crowded!  Silly tourists, there are much better places to see...  Being locals, we refused to pay for parking.  So after a 15 minute search and a 15 minute walk, we finally arrived.  What did we find?  More delicious trucks!  Mid-afternoon second lunch, anyone?

Barbie'sQ - pulled pork, beef brisket, potato salad

Lake Street Creamery - Aztec Sacrifice (chocolate with chili powder), donut, and pancake breakfast.  Yes, pancakes, syrup, bacon and coffee all coming through as flavors in a scoop of ice cream.  All served in a waffle bowl "in a futile attempt to save the environment," said the side of the truck.

Tristan was of course a fan of the 2nd lunch.  But we still had dinner to enjoy!

Father's Day gift 2009, most used cookbook in the house.

Oaxacan burger - Krista braved making a version of mole (not the rodent, I can't figure out how to add an accent mark).  It was sheer awesomeness.

Krista's first puff pastry attempt from her new book.  And guess what?  They puffed!  Sorry about the blurry picture, we continue to fight a losing battle against the lighting in our apartment.

My present from Krista and Tristan to complete the day of food focus.

After all was said and done, a fantastic day hanging out and eating with the family.  Thanks to everyone for the birthday wishes, we'll see many of you in a week in Tahoe!

I am not so sure about the breakfast in one scoop of ice cream. Great adventures, though, and now you know how you can get Tristan to eat meat. Make it into ice cream...a new culinary challenge!

I don't even know how to respond to breakfast ice-cream! Sounds pretty bizarre - your family is turning into regular 'food researchaholics!' Love it. Just left you a phone message.
