Memories

Michael and I are moving (to a new apartment in the same complex) so we cleaned out our garage over the weekend.  As a result we came across some old papers that Aunt Rosalee had everyone fill out at our rehearsal dinner about advice/what we would be doing in a year.  In honor of our 10 year anniversary I've decided to post some here, especially since some of the predictions came true closer to our 10 year anniversary than our one year!

Kaaryn Shadle (Fore)- "I hope you have had a wonderful first year of marriage together and if you have a kid presently , dang he/she is adorable!  If you don't have a child yet, good luck and I hope he/she will come out alright!
---Well we of course didn't have a kid after a year, but we do now and he is adorable!  Unfortunately he didn't come out alright at the beginning, but he's alright now!

Ken Graves- "Krista- It is now time to start training Michael to wash the dishes.  Michael- Make sure you are always, always totally inept when washing the clothes or the dishes- and you will never regret it!"
--- Guess what, Michael still hasn't been trained to wash the dishes!  He does them every once in awhile but each time we fight about how slow he is and how he doesn't know where to put them away.  So I guess he took Ken's advice!

Melissa Shade (just because it's so cute- she's in highschool now!) "Thank you for letting me be a flower girl."

Grandpa Hughes- "Be sure to listen to each other and dream together, then follow what you dream."
Aunt Janet Cook- "It just gets better year after year- Remember to say and show your love often."
---Lovely advice and we honor them and all of the relatives who have passed away since that rehearsal (they all gave lovely advice) including Aunt Jean, Grandpa Shadle, Grandma Hughes, and Great Aunt Barb

Guy Cook- " Well I was wondering if you ever want that uhh video tape of your wedding.  Just checking."
--Hmmm, you know we never did receive that video of our wedding : )

Kim Defolo- "It is time that you guys left the confines of Pullman! Michael, I hope you've finally graduated by now!  Krista, I hope you get a really awesome job in some exotic city.  And I truly hope your first year of marriage has been wonderful."
--- This just made us laugh out loud because Michael just graduated- 10 years later!  At the time I didn't have a good job, but I did eventually get an awesome job as a catering director in the exotic city of Los Angeles : )

A final word from Jim Graves- "Well, it seems fairly ironic for a 20 year old college kid to be giving you "words of wisdom", but here is my best shot.  From what I have gathered from my parents and their relationship, be patient and forgiving.  You are never right or wrong, rather you are human.  Best of luck in the future, and relax, it's only life.  Before you know it you're looking back."
---What insight that 20 year old had from watching his parents!  And the irony in the fact that we are now looking back.

Our new goal is to pay more attention to everyone's anniversaries!  This may be difficult since they all just passed-oops!  Libby brought up the excellent point that marriage is hard and each year of success should be celebrated.  We never forget a birthday but those aren't even an accomplishment.  Why don't we celebrate all the wedding anniversaries in our lives with at least a card or phone call?  And to all of you that already do that- good for you!  If we attended your wedding- expect an anniversary card in the future : )

I just was going to take a short break - good heavens! I was surprised all to pieces. What a lovely tribute to your 10 years - most people don't have that much going on in 20 years! What a wonderful family you three are!
Love, Rosalee
ps. I got a real chuckle out of some of the comments, also. You can probably guess which ones.

Wonderful post. Thanks for sharing the advice. It was nice to hear what people had said, I was especially moved by Grandpa Hughes, of course.

Hope the move goes well.
