Day 13

He woke up! We were at the hospital this morning and actually got to see Tristan during some of the little time that he's awake each day. He made me late to work, too; even though he can only see a few inches, if that, we still felt like we couldn't walk away until he went back to sleep :) Overall, they still say he's doing really well. He is starting to get some steroids for his lungs, though, because his breathing is not improving at a rate that will have him off the ventilator anytime soon. As a quick side, the blue doll/cloth in the picture is called a bonding doll. They sent it home with Krista and I to sleep with for a few nights, then we brought it back to put in with Tristan so he learns our scent. It's one of the ways they try to make us feel more connected to him in his little bubble, which is great. I think that's pretty much it - as one of the nurses put it, "I've been doing this a long time. Keep your chin up. It's a long day by day process." We're trying to keep that attitude and adding a lot of prayer. I say it every day, but thanks again for going through this with us. It makes all the difference.

nurses have a unique way of making a stressful situation feel a lot better. Especially the older, wiser ones who have seen it all. I can't wait to be like that someday :)
