How wonderful to have a full bowl of fruit and vegetables........those brown/green heirloom tomatoes are the most amazing tasting tomatoes ever!
Mom decided to turn those veggies into pizza with homemade whole wheat crust- the perfect thing for Tristan to help with.
So everyone knows we've tried everything under the sun to get our child to eat a proper dinner. Bribing, rewards, desserts, giving him choices, time outs, going to bed early, participating in preparing meals, etc. Nothing has worked- he's a stubborn little sucker. Side note- Tonight while making pizza for some inexplicable reason (maybe because it was for pizza) he made sure to try the peppers and all three colors of tomatoes before we put them on the pizza- yay! So over memorial day when I was at Kent and Stacey's I watched them insist that Jack a few more bites of this or that before he could get up. And he actually listened to them (don't know if that always happens : )) Despite everything I've read against the sitting at the table until you take a bite routine, I decided I needed to give it a try. We hadn't tried that before because we hadn't felt like he was old enough to understand- now he obviously is!
I had given up on him eating, usually he eats applesauce or hummus for dinner and leaves everything else. But he kept saying what's that?, oh onion, I don't like those, oh broccoli, I don't like that, etc. I was so tired of hearing him say those words when he hadn't ever tried any of the things he supposedly hated so much. So I had to give it another go. I decided to begin this when Michael was out of town. The first night he screamed at the table for 90 minutes, but finally gave in and ate a bite of everything I gave him. Every night after that he has had to sit at the table until close to bedtime but he's always ended up trying each thing on his plate-yay! We're hoping eventually he will just try the things while we are all eating- we shall see. At this point I'm just happy he's getting at least a bite of a vegetable each day! And operating under the lesser of two evils reasoning he's begun to eat random things he would never eat before like rice (which he decided was better than the tofu on his plate) and tomatoes on his pizza (instead of the onions). One day I swear this child will act like he came from Michael and I and actually eat all kinds of interesting things without a fight!

Keep at it............it was years before Rosalee could get me to try apricots........and even longer for me to eat red and yellow and orange peppers. I missed out on these for a long time, but surely like them now! Hang tough!
Love, Mom
Food stories -- they are as varied and many as there are kids! My favorite is over cooked carrots with Val - I lost! And, to this day he doesn't like cooked carrots! The pictures are wonderful and Tristan really will be a foodie one of these days. Hang in there...FGA
Do you remember the days of sitting at the table? You had to have at least 3 green beans, etc. All 3 of you would take a gulp of milk and down the vegetable. I just like the fact that you expose him to so many kinds of foods. Maybe he'll be a chef one day with all of the cooking opportunities he gets.
Love, Mom S.
oh yuck, I still can't stand green beans. I remember drinking the milk with them!
Elijah is deciding to be pickier and pickier these days, too, and he just screams and throws a huge fit if I try to insist he eats a bite of anything. I don't think he quite "gets it" yet, but one day I'm sure you could write a book about picky eaters! I'm just glad you can disguise some vegetables in other foods, otherwise he wouldn't get any veggies at all.
Those veggies look yummy! Do you participate in a CSA in LA? Or did you pick them up at the farmers market? They're not the usual variety you'd find in the store.
We do participate in CSA in L.A. It helps a lot for us to get a good variety of veggies and fruits every week. Plus it's local and organic!
Testimonial---the pizza is terrific! I really enjoyed it, and the visit that went with it. Love from Grandpa Tony, the traveler.
