My husband couldn't be home for my birthday last week. : (
In fact we didn't even see each other one night that week except lying down to sleep.
So I was a little bummed about not being able to celebrate on Wednesday.
But despite all of his frustrating behaviors I have a special, special son.
He loves a good birthday.
On the way out of school he asked if we could make me a cake when we got home.
I told him dad was planning to do a dessert and celebrate this weekend.
He insisted you have to have birthday cake on your birthday so we had to make one.
Didn't take much convincing, we found a wonderful recipe in our Joy the Baker cookbook.
His version of helping me make the cake was using the kitchen aid attachment as a pirate hook.
A flower and sprinkles were his must have decorations for the cake.
Yummy Peanut Butter and Chocolate Birthday Cake.
He put a candle on and sang me Happy Birthday after dinner.
Then we sat to open presents together.
Partway through he mentioned he was very disappointed that Dad hadn't got a present for me (sorry, dad!) yet.
He insisted I needed a present from them on my actual birthday so he headed into his craft area and created a present for me.
Hearts he had drawn and cut out for me : )
He has no idea how special all of that is for a 5 year old to do.
Turned out to be one of the most memorable birthday's ever.
