Rainy Day Teacher

We've had colds and bad weather keeping us in the house for awhile now.
We've gotten pretty stagnant, thankfully we ran across the window crayons.
Tristan really dislikes reading, spelling and writing.
He has an extreme issue with failure.
So if he thinks he can't do something he refuses to try.
That's why he doesn't like reading/writing.
He also has an extremely competitive streak so with the fun window crayons we were able to do this for a an hour or two.

He just knew he couldn't draw a heart or diamond.
His mom decided to get competitive (mine are in black) and say,"Oh well I guess I win then because I can do it."
Maybe not the nicest strategy but it worked- he tried to do something he just couldn't do!
And look genuine happiness when he realized he could.

After drawing and letters we moved to becoming teachers and teaching each other how to spell words.
And that was just too exhausting, so he took a three hour nap on the couch.

Great story! Great pictures! Fear of failure is a sign of giftedness - having to be perfect!!! And I am not kidding.

Thanks for the great post!

What a great sequence of pictures and dialogue. Love the way you turned things around, Mom. For some reason, I really liked the nap picture - he had worked hard and just needed to be re-energized!
