A miraculous sight

This is Tristan sleeping in his crib during the day, a shocking sight! The past two days I've gotten him down at least twice for 45-90 minute periods. This has helped me immensely. I can finally do things that non mom's take for granted like wash dishes, shower, make lunch! Sounds lame, but I've learned to be excited to actually do these things. Grocery shopping by myself has become a big adventure! Ahh, how babies change you... The contraption in his mouth is a pacifier with a nasal aspirator shoved in to keep the pacifier in. A little trick I learned from the NICU nurses. Tristan loves his pacifier, but he has a hard time keeping it in his mouth. When he's sleeping he ends up crying about 50% of the time because his pacifier fell out, so this helps a lot. The other thing I've discovered this week is that the other 50% of the time he's crying in bed because of gas. Sounds weird, but he's either farting or getting a burp out when I pick him up to comfort him. I used to think he hated being in the crib, but now I think he just needs a little comfort and then he will go back down! So many revelations this week. The other photo is him finally enjoying his bouncy chair! I don't even have to turn the vibrating part on he just likes looking at the flashing lights, animals and hearing the music. You can see by his face how fascinated he is! He also spends the whole time waving his hands and kicking his feet! I think he was sad when I took him out, but we were advised not to leave him in it more than 15-20 minutes because it doesn't have any back support. This weekend we are off to visit Aunt LIbby in San Diego for the first time, woo hoo!
*** I keep forgetting to say that we also had our monitor downloaded. There were 14 Episodes (i.e. Bradychardia or Apnea). After detailed analysis the doctor said that only one of those was actually real (we knew which one). The rest just had interference or didn't pick up shallow breaths. But the kicker is that it also counts all of the false alarms (i.e. the leads were loose) and that alarm went off 706 times! I mean I knew we were annoyed with the monitor, but I didn't realize it had gone off that many times! We just try to remember the monitor is for the health of Tristan!

Krista - Thanks for the update and cute pictures. I guarantee that you will remember this week as being the time when survival seemed possible!!! We pray that Tristan will grow "more cooperative" each day!!!

I just got home last night from a visit to Spokane and loved to see the new pictures -- an age of discovery for everyone, it sounds like. And, so many more to come!
